The Utilities Department, an integral part of the Coke Division, is responsible for the production of process steam, which is used in the manufacturing process as well as for the generation of electrical power.
- Utilization of Coke Oven Gas - The excess coke oven gas is transported by pipe line to the Utilities Department where it is used in the boilers to produce super-heated steam.
- Process Steam for the Coking Process - A portion of the steam is transported to the Coke Plant for use in the coking and by products processes.
- Power Generation - The remaining steam is used to power one of two electrical generating units which supplies electricity to the entire facility. At full operation the facility produces its own electrical power needs.
- Power Distribution – Consists of all high voltage power lines, transformers, switching equipment and substations within the complex.
